In the National High School wrestling championships:
Calvary Chapel duo advance to All-American round--Four-time South Dakota champion Cory Wallman defeated Calvary Chapel’s Joshua Holiday, 10-6, Saturday in the 145-pound quarterfinals.
Holiday (52-0), who had already won his second consecutive State title, advanced to today’s All-American round with a 16-9 consolation victory over Mario Castillo of Watsonville.
The Eagles’ Ed Mosley battled back from an opening-night loss Friday with victories over Washington’s Brandon LaLonde, 18-9, Kansas champion Byron Wilson, 24-12, and North Dakota’s Michael Satlak, 18-8. A 7-3 victory over Minnesota’s Jim Peterson enabled Mosley to advance to the All-American round.
In the Pacific Palisades Invitational volleyball tournament:
Corona del Mar wins: The Sea Kings defeated Long Beach Poly, 15-5, to capture the championship.
Sophomore outside hitter Blair Hoppe senior middle blocker Clay Burton were named to the all-tournament team for Corona del Mar.
