VALUE ADDED

It’s fruitless to discuss David Bowie’s music, both past and future, in terms of “market value” (Pop Eye, April 2). Virtually all of his greatest artistic successes fared poorly on the charts. This includes each album he collaborated on with Brian Eno, whom he’s currently working with.
Bowie has quietly resuscitated himself in the past six years. In 1989, Tin Machine was considered too raw by fans and critics alike. Needless to say, Bowie was again about five years ahead in vision and five years behind in marketable terms. Since then, he’s released a stunning solo album and a soundtrack to a British film that contains 10 of the quirkiest songs he’s ever written. Neither are available domestically.
Here’s to diminishing market value.

Thank you so much for the little tidbit about the group Chicago in March 26’s Pop Eye. I realize they may not be the “in” band anymore, but there are many people like myself who still enjoy their music.
Thanks for remembering us!
