Electric Cars Need to Be More au Current
“Electric Vehicle Firm Struggles to Keep Going” (March 21) on the problems of Electricar illustrates some of the problems facing electric vehicle manufacturers.
One difficulty is that viability of electric cars has always been described as being heavily dependent on batteries. With none of the current batteries being satisfactory in terms of cost, life, weight, power capacity, and safety, all EV proponents bet on quick and miraculous breakthroughs. This is an admission that the early cars are obsolete while still on the dealers’ lots. The first cars purchased will instantly have the resale value of a Yugo.
No wonder companies and investors are skittish. It would be a safer bet to let Bob Citron play with your money in the derivatives game. Or just gamble on the lottery.
