OJAI : Tree Blocks Traffic on California 33

Hundreds of motorists were backed up for several hours Sunday after high winds uprooted a tree that blocked traffic on California 33 just south of Wheeler Gorge near Ojai, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officials said most of the two-lane road was blocked by the huge tree, which was cut up and removed late in the day.
“It was a very, very large tree that was going across the road,” a CHP dispatcher said. “There’s no way possible to get it moved until they saw it up.”
Several telephone lines also were downed when the tree was uprooted. But there was no danger to highway workers, and service was expected to be restored late Sunday.
The National Weather Service said winds reached 40 m.p.h. Sunday.
