Wells Fargo-Nikko Venture for Sale: Wells Fargo Nikko Investment Advisors is looking for a buyer in hopes of becoming the world’s largest institutional money manager. It is already the nation’s largest. “In this business, bigger is better,” Chief Executive Frederick Grauer said. The firm, a joint venture of Wells Fargo & Co. and Japan’s Nikko Securities, manages $170 billion for 553 institutional clients. It is a leader in index investing, a passive management style that attempts to replicate the performance of broad-based indexes such as the Standard & Poor’s 500.
