Three Ventura County teachers represented the United States recently in a conference on special education in England.
Cathy Cartwright of Somis and David Simmons and Paula Lovo of Ventura attended the Fourth International Special Education Congress, which ended Thursday.
The three, along with the chairman of the special education department at Cal State Northridge, were selected to attend the four-day conference in Birmingham, England, after submitting a written proposal on a special education presentation.
The presentation was about how to help teachers’ aides and teachers to become certified special education teachers, said Cartwright, who is a coordinator of special education for the Pleasant Valley School District.
There is a shortage of special education teachers nationwide, Cartwright said.
Simmons is a teacher at Buena High School, and Lovo teaches special education at CSUN and is an instructor for the Ventura County superintendent of schools, Cartwright said.
