A rock slide closed the northbound lanes of a 12-mile stretch of Interstate 5 near Frazier Park on Monday night, authorities said.
The freeway was closed at California 138 at 7 p.m. after boulders, rocks and dirt fell onto the roadway, damaging a car near the Tejon Summit, said Officer Kerri Hawkins of the California Highway Patrol.
The southbound lanes were not affected, she said.
Motorists heading north on the freeway were diverted to Highway 138, sending them on a detour of more than 100 miles before returning to Interstate 5, Hawkins said.
Caltrans crews were expected to reopen the lanes by early today.
