It wasn’t so long ago that you needed a map and a car to find the various departments of the Irvine Unified School District.
Irvine voters in 1981 approved a bond measure to fund construction of a central administration building for the rapidly growing school district.
Previous district offices were housed in trailers parked at a local middle school, in a condominium, in a warehouse and in rented office space on Alton Parkway.
The $3.9-million, 33,000-square-foot building was constructed on four acres of land at 5050 Barranca Parkway.
Today
Some of the county’s brightest student scientists will display their projects at the 14th annual Irvine Unified School District Science Fair.
For the past nine years, Irvine students have had a lock on the Best School Award in the senior division at the Orange County Science and Engineering Fair.
The Irvine fair runs from noon to 8 p.m. Students will be explaining their projects from 6 to 8 p.m. in the University High School gymnasium, 4771 Campus Drive.
An awards ceremony follows.
