Seven scholarship-winning musicians will perform at an awards ceremony Saturday sponsored by a local group that raises funds to help young performers pursue careers and education in music.
The 33rd annual Meet the Musicians event, sponsored by the Women’s Committee of the Glendale Symphony Orchestra and the Glendale chapter of the Music Teachers Assn., will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Brand Library, 1601 W. Mountain St.
Nine musicians will receive scholarships totaling $4,000 to be used for higher education, organizers said.
The winners, all of whom are students of Glendale-area music teachers, include first-place winner Gwendolyn Barriac, a pianist, who will receive an $800 scholarship.
Pianists Diana Kim, Sarah Lee and Anita Nagrecha, cellist Michael French and vocalists Frederick Andrew Dwight and Lisa Hoefs will receive $500 each.
Two other students, Maria Gonzales and Duane Tan, will receive awards of $100 each, organizers said.
