PORT HUENEME : Truck Driver Unhurt as Tank Explodes
- Share via
A Port Hueneme man escaped serious injury when a welding tank in the back of his pickup truck exploded, authorities said.
Emigido Valdivia, 58, was getting into his truck about noon Friday when one of three acetylene tanks exploded.
“We don’t know if the tank was overfilled or just faulty,” Port Hueneme Police Sgt. Jerry Beck said.
The blast badly damaged the truck, knocking out all its windows and rolling the roof back.
Valdiva complained only of ringing ears.
“He must have been living right up until then,” Beck said. “Somebody was sure smiling on him.”
Beck said Cal / OSHA was investigating the accident. Valdivia is employed by Beardsley & Sons, an Oxnard company that owned the truck.
