Murdoch Clears Hurdle in Station Purchases: Federal regulators cleared the way for the media mogul to acquire two TV stations from New World Communications. The Federal Trade Commission found no antitrust concerns involved with Fox Television’s acquisition of WBRC in Birmingham, Ala., and WGHP in Greensboro, N.C. The acquisition also requires the approval of the Federal Communications Commission. Murdoch controls and is chief executive of Fox’s parent, News Corp. New World Communications is a media company controlled by financier Ronald Perelman, who also heads the cosmetics company Revlon Inc.
