Intel Cuts Chip Prices: The Santa Clara, Calif.-based manufacturer trimmed prices on its Pentium microprocessors by as much as 31% in an effort to broaden the appeal of its flagship computer chip in the consumer market. Intel Corp. slashed the price of its mid-range 90-MHz Pentium to $377 from $546. It cut prices on other Pentium models from 8.7% to 29%, reducing the top-end 120-MHz Pentium 21% to $734 and its 60-MHz Pentium 10.3% to $260. Intel said the cuts are intended to make the Pentium the top-selling microprocessor in personal computers by the end of the year, replacing its aging 486 chip.
