The men, believed to be 18 to 30 years old, were in the vehicle near the 20100 block of Mulholland Drive when the accident occurred about 8:15 p.m., authorities said. Other details of the crash were unclear late Wednesday.
One of the men, believed to be 30 years old, died of head injuries after being airlifted to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
Two of the men were not hurt. Another suffered minor injuries, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
