Countywide : High School Jazz Bands Facing Off at Festival

Jazz bands from 19 Orange County high schools are scheduled to compete for cash prizes today at the Orange County Fair’s 1995 Youth Expo Jazz Festival.
Each band entered in the competition will play three selections for up to 20 minutes on stage, including setup, performance and takedown.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Heritage Stage at the Orange County Fairgrounds, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
Awards will be $300 for first place, $250 for second place, $200 for third place and $150 for fourth place.
The first-place winner in the high school division also will have the chance to play at the Long Beach Jazz Festival later in the year.
Judging sheets rating each band’s performance style, skill, creativity/originality and stage presence will be made public after the competition.
