For a limited time, San Diego Gas & Electric Co. will settle accounts that were closed before Nov. 1 for half the money owed.
Officials at the San Diego-based utility, which serves some South County cities, say they are the first in the nation to offer such an amnesty program.
The program begins Saturday and runs through June 10.
“Our amnesty program offers people who want to settle old debts a great opportunity to clear up their SDG&E; credit record at just half the cost,” said Jane Wiens, manager of SDG&E;’s customer service telephone center.
Those who are interested in paying past-due bills with SDG&E; can call or visit local offices. Some of the offices will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends through June 10.
