Former UCLA All-American Henry Bibby has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at USC, Coach Charlie Parker said Thursday.
Bibby, who coached Oklahoma City in the Continental Basketball Assn. last season, will replace Jack Fertig, who left the staff this week to pursue other coaching opportunities.
“We’re extremely excited about adding someone like Henry to our staff,” Parker said. “He has a proven track record as a winner as both a player and a coach. His list of accomplishments speaks for itself.”
Bibby, a guard, played for three national championship teams at UCLA, and, in the NBA, he was a member of the 1973 New York Knicks’ title team. He also helped the Lancaster (Pa.) Lightning to a CBA title in his last season as a player.
Bibby began his coaching career with the Springfield Fame of the U.S. Basketball League in 1986. In the CBA, he was coach of the year in 1988-89 after Tulsa won the championship.
