Earnings Soar Despite Drop in Sales at CSL Lighting

CSL Lighting Manufacturing Inc., a Valencia-based manufacturer of lighting fixtures, reported a big jump in earnings for the first quarter that ended March 31, although sales fell 3%.
CSL posted net income of $182,000 for the first quarter, more than double earnings of $76,000 reported in the same three-month period a year earlier. Sales totaled $3.93 million in the first quarter, down slightly from $4.06 million.
The company expanded its profit margin by slashing $298,000 in selling expenses in the first quarter compared to a year earlier.
Sy Gerber, chief executive of CSL, said the company’s goal is “to further enhance profitability through aggressive sales and marketing.”
