Anaheim : Schools Offered Free Low-Flush Toilets

In an effort to conserve water, the Anaheim Public Utilities Department is offering 1,200 new ultra-low-flush toilets and urinals to city schools.
The $240,000 program will save about 128-million gallons of water over the 10-year life of the equipment, officials say. The new fixtures use only 1.6 gallons per flush, compared to five to seven gallons per flush on standard models.
The schools are responsible for pickup and installation of the new toilets and delivery of old fixtures for recycling into roadbed material.
“This program helps the schools, which are strapped for money, to increase resource efficiency while decreasing costs,” Anaheim Public Utilities spokeswoman Mariann Long said. “By funding implementation of water- and energy-saving technologies and equipment, the department saves money in the long run.”
