O’Brien suffered her first high school loss since her freshman year when she finished second to Melissa Schutz of Newport Harbor in the 50-yard freestyle at the Sea View League finals, but O’Brien made sure nothing like that happened at the Southern Section Division I final. She swam the fastest time in the county this season, 23.75 seconds, to win and then won the 100 free in 51.36 to repeat the double she accomplished at the Division II meet last season.

* Fullerton, junior. Extended her scoreless streak to 57 innings before Troy scored in the seventh inning of a 5-1 Fullerton victory.

* Rosary, sophomore. Went five for eight with three home runs, five runs scored and eight runs batted in 9-4 and 11-0 victories over Tustin.
