In other Division II matches:
Sunny Hills 15, Canyon 3--Joseph Gilbert swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for top-seeded Sunny Hills (19-2) in first-round play. Teammates Tuji Chang and John Choi, both freshmen, swept at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-3. Sunny Hills plays Loara in the second round.
Loara 14, La Canada 4--Bryan Hollenbeck swept in singles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, and Dean Jung and Raymond Myung swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1, for Loara.
University 18, Cerritos Gahr 0--Chris Seid lost only two games in three sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for University (13-3) in a first round matchup. Doug McCan also swept for the Trojans, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.
Villa Park 12, Victorville Victor Valley 6--Chad Smith won 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 and B.K. Chang won 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in singles action for Villa Park (18-3). Ryan Hollis injured his shoulder last weekend, but still won two of his three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1, despite having to serve underhand.
Foothill 16, Sonora 2--Third-seeded Foothill (19-1) didn’t lose a match in doubles in its first-round victory. In singles, senior Ryan Thompson and freshman Joost Hol swept their sets. Thompson won 6-2, 6-0, 6-1 and Hol won 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.
In Division I:
Dana Hills 16, Edison 2--Brandon Fallon swept in singles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, and Hanley Ernst and Reid Spiegl swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-3, for Dana Hills.
Esperanza 15, Chino Hills Ayala 3--Devin Lopez won 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 in singles to lead Esperanza (11-7) in a first-round playoff match. In doubles Matt Fryer and Tony Hsu won 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 and Jason Tillan and Chris Valdez won 6-0, 6-4, 6-0.
Los Alamitos 15, Santa Monica 3--Bryan Geddes swept his singles’ sets 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 and Marco Matterazzi and Franco Trani swept their doubles’ sets 6-2, 6-0, 6-0. Los Alamitos plays the winner of Camarillo and Goleta Dos Pueblos match.
Corona del Mar 11, Trabuco Hills 7--The Sea Kings (14-5) swept in all doubles matches for the victory. Josh Weinstein and Greg Coleman won 6-1, 6-1, 6-0 and Raj Shukla and Mike Feyka won 6-1, 6-0, 6-2 to lead Corona del Mar.
Woodbridge 17, Lakewood 1--Jonny Biorkman swept at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, for second-ranked Woodbridge (20-1).
