Plant: Artichokes, cardoons, green garlic, perennial herbs, Jerusalem artichokes, potatoes, strawberries. Also horseradish (except in the low desert) and sweet potato slips (except in the mountains).

Harvest: Asian greens, beets, leaf celery, chard, collards/kale, perennial herbs, leeks, mustard greens, green onions, violas, salad greens, shallot greens. Also broccoli, carrots, radishes (except in the low desert).

COASTAL CLIMATES

Sow: Asian greens, all beans, beets, celeriac/leaf celery, cucumbers, nasturtiums, okra, peanuts, all peas, salad greens, salsify/scorzonera, spinach, turnips.

Plant: Eggplant, all peppers, shallots.

INTERIOR CLIMATES

(Where fuchsias won’t grow)

Sow: Asian greens (except Chinese cabbage), all beans but favas, cucumbers, melons/watermelons, nasturtiums, okra, peanuts.

Plant: All peppers.

Harvest: Asparagus, common/cowpeas/horticultural beans, broccoli, cabbage, celeriac, corn, onions, potatoes, turnips.

MOUNTAINS (Around 6,000 feet and above)

Sow: Seeds under “everywhere” either for transplanting or under cover. Also sow for transplanting: Asian greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celeriac/leaf celery, cucumbers, fennel, melons/watermelons, okra, onions family, all peppers.

Also sow under cover: Fava beans, all peas, salsify/scorzonera, hardy salad greens, spinach.

Plant: Rhubarb.

Harvest: Hardy herbs, hardy greens, turnips.
