COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Long Beach State Beats Miami, 4-1

Long Beach State upset ninth-ranked Miami, 4-1, in baseball Thursday at Blair Field in Long Beach.
Jeff Liefer hit a two-run home run in the first inning to set the tone for the 49ers (35-21-1). Kyle Wilson picked up his 11th victory and Gabe Gonzalez got his 17th save for Long Beach.
The 49ers meet Miami in the second of a three-game series at 7:05 tonight at Blair Field.
In men’s golf:
Anteaters in 15th place--UC Irvine is tied with San Diego State for 15th place after the first day of the NCAA Division I West Regional at the Championship Golf Course at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Kevin Yamauchi, in 34th place, led UCI after the first round Thursday with a one-over 73.
California and Arizona State are tied for the lead at 283. Cal’s Rick Reinsberg and New Mexico’s Mike Sauer each shot four-under 68 to lead the field.
The tournament continues today and concludes with the final 18 on Saturday.
