VERNON : Quick Action Averts Blast in Truck Crash

It took 12 firefighters 10 minutes to put out a blaze that engulfed a tanker truck loaded with 8,800 gallons of fuel after a car plowed into the side of the vehicle during the early morning hours of May 14.
Any longer, officials say, and there would have been a blast that would have damaged the buildings at the corner of 38th Street and South Santa Fe Avenue.
Police and fire officials said spectators kept their distance, wary that the fire would ignite the Mobil Oil tanker truck.
