LOS ANGELES COUNTY : 2 Programs for Homeless Receive Shelter Grants

Two homeless programs in Los Angeles County were among 50 statewide to share $5.1 million in federal emergency shelter grant funds, officials announced Monday.
“These funds will be used for a wide variety of programs, including emergency shelters, transitional housing, day shelters, shelters for victims of spousal abuse and homeless prevention activities,” said state Housing Director Timothy L. Coyle.
Locally, $31,239 was earmarked for the Antelope Valley Domestic Violence Council, and $279,656 to Stop Homelessness in the Rio Hondo area, he said.
The grants, awarded to providers in 26 counties, range in size from $13,750 to $324,849. The funding will assist governmental as well as nonprofit programs.
