World IN BRIEF : ALGERIA : U.S. Urges Travelers to Pack Protection

Forewarned is forearmed, so far as travel by Americans to Algeria is concerned. At least that’s the State Department’s advice. For months, the department has been advising Americans to steer clear of the North African country, where civil strife and violence are widespread. This week’s travel advisory extended the warning: “The department recommends that those Americans who choose to be in Algeria despite this warning have substantial armed protection while traveling overland, on their work sites or in their accommodations.” Otherwise, the State Department advises, get out.
