Dora Valdez Williams, a longtime Ventura County resident and a skilled gardener, has died. She was 68.
Williams, a resident of Oxnard since 1976, died at her daughter’s house in Thousand Oaks on Sunday after a brief illness, said her niece, Helen Hernandez of Thousand Oaks.
A native of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Williams grew up in Chicago and moved to Thousand Oaks in 1959 with her first husband and two children.
After moving to Oxnard, she spent much of her time building a garden at her home and playing bingo, Hernandez said.
“Her house was always filled with plants and flowers,” Hernandez said. “She just loved gardening.”
In addition to her niece, she is survived by her husband, William A. Williams of Oxnard; a daughter, Nancy Urban of Arlington, Tex.; a son, Thomas V. Valdez of Thousand Oaks; four sisters, and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.
