Boy’s Artwork Wins Conservation Award
Juan Delgado, a third-grader at Whittier Elementary School in Costa Mesa, has been honored by the Mesa Consolidated Water District for his artwork.
Juan was the winner of a water district contest for artwork that illustrates the importance of water conservation.
His painting depicted a leaping dolphin with the words “Water is life” at the top. It will appear in a calendar to be distributed by the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County.

Wanted: Clean Teens for Recycling Work
Teens can help promote a clean environment by participating in the city’s recycling activities.
Recycle Placentia Teen Team is open to Placentia junior and high school students (ages 13 to 18). Members of the team help Placentia residents raise their awareness of environmental issues by working on special events that educate the public about recycling. The deadline for applications is Wednesday. Information: (714) 993-8117.

Student a Hit at Judo Tournament
San Clemente High School student Adam Miller earned a silver medal at the 1995 National High School Judo Championship in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Miller was one of more than 150 students from across the nation who competed.
A representative from the United States Judo Inc. Interscholastic Committee called Miller an “outstanding ambassador on behalf of his family, school and state.”

IRVINE
Woodbridge Team Wins History Contest
Woodbridge High School freshmen Daniel Chun, David Hahn, Darrin Lee, Jay Sorensen and William Soung have won a statewide competition in Sacramento and will represent California in the National History Day competition at the University of Maryland.
The event is sponsored by the Constitutional Rights Foundation and the California Department of Education. The project presented by the five History Day team members was titled: “Abortion: The Government’s Role in the Woman’s Right to Choose.”

Child Troupe to Play ‘The Sound of Music’
Fullerton Children’s Repertory Theater will present “The Sound of Music” this summer at the Fullerton High School Little Theater. The cast includes 50 young people in fifth through eighth grades.
Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. on July 21, 22, 28 and 29. Matinees will be at 1:30 p.m. on July 22 and 29.
