A 25-year-old Port Hueneme man was killed and his toddler son slightly injured in a traffic accident Monday night, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
A CHP spokeswoman said Auzzie Lee Sheard III was traveling south on Lewis Road at more than 50 m.p.h. when he slammed into the rear of a slower-moving truck hauling a trailer.
The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. just south of Cawelti Road south of Camarillo. The CHP said the speed limit is 55 m.p.h. on that single-lane stretch of road.
Auzzie Lee Sheard IV was treated and released from Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo. The 18-month-old infant was in a child-restraint seat, officials said. The driver of the truck, Herminio Martinez Perez, 33, of Oxnard, was not injured.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
