TUSTIN — A 44-year-old Tustin man who had been drinking drowned in the pool of his apartment complex early Tuesday morning, police said.
Richard Wayne Dixon told his girlfriend about midnight that he was going to the pool for a swim. When she awoke at 2:55 a.m. and realized Dixon had not returned, she went looking for him and found him floating in the pool, said Tustin Police Sgt. Brent Zicarelli.
Neighbors from the complex, at 1712 Nisson Road, heard the woman’s screams and tried to revive Dixon. A police officer and paramedics continued resuscitation efforts, but Dixon died at the scene, Zicarelli said.
The Orange County coroner’s office has not determined Dixon’s blood alcohol level at the time of his death, but Zicarelli said that Dixon had been drinking and “alcohol had something to do with” the drowning.
