After playing sparingly his freshman season at Notre Dame, former San Fernando High quarterback Leon Blunt will transfer to New Mexico.
Blunt, who played quarterback and flanker for the Irish, will be converted to running back. Blunt caught one pass, threw one pass and had eight carries in limited action.
He left Notre Dame after the spring semester without participating in spring practice. He will sit out this season in accordance with NCAA rules and will be eligible in 1996.
“They’re going to give me a chance to run with the ball,” Blunt said. “I’ve felt all along [running back] was my natural position.”
Blunt, 5 feet 10, 185 pounds, also considered Hawaii, Fresno State and Arizona.
