FULLERTON — Jane K. Bledsoe, a seasoned museum administrator, has been named director of Fullerton’s Muckenthaler Cultural Center, effective Sept. 1. She will be the first full-time, non-city employee to take the organization’s helm.
Bledsoe, selected unanimously this week by the Muckenthaler Cultural Center Foundation board, is executive director of San Pedro’s Angels Gate Cultural Center, a community arts center. She was director of the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia (1988-91) and associate director at the Cal State Long Beach’s museum (1974-88). In Georgia, she curated the first retrospective of work by Elaine de Kooning.
Bledsoe said Friday she regrets leaving Angels Gate after five months, but that she was attracted to Muckenthaler trustees’ “phenomenally strong” support and involvement.
Judith Peterson was Muckenthaler director until last July, when Sally Waranch of Fullerton’s Sarah Bain Gallery became acting director.
