THOUSAND OAKS : Woman Dies After Single-Car Accident

A Chatsworth woman died Thursday when she lost control of her car while driving on the Moorpark Freeway, but two children in the car escaped with minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Valerie Brown Kayne, 30, was driving south near the Olsen Road off-ramp when she apparently passed out, authorities said. Her car then hit a post and a guardrail, authorities said.

Kayne, who was ejected from the car, was taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where she died at 12:30 p.m., authorities said.

The two other passengers, 5-year-old Wesley Kayne and 1-year-old Preston Kayne, also were taken to the medical center, where they were treated for minor injuries. Both boys were released late Thursday, hospital officials said.
