WATER POLO : Villa Park’s Baumgarner Keys ORCA Victories

Kyle Baumgarner of Villa Park scored six goals in two games to lead second-seeded Orange Regional Competition Aquatics 15-and-under team to two victories at the Junior Olympic Water Polo Championships Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.
Baumgarner scored three goals and Matt Sakatani from El Toro had four in ORCA’s 9-6 victory over third-seeded Stanford.
In a 7-2 victory over Southern California’s B team, Baumgarner had three goals.
The two victories improved ORCA’s record to 5-0 entering semifinal action against sixth-seeded Annapolis, Md.
In other 15-and-under games, Jordan Hewko of San Clemente and John Pearce of Los Alamitos each had four goals, two in each game, as the Southern California A team defeated Norse of San Diego and Annapolis by scores of 9-6.
The Southern California B team rebounded from its loss to ORCA to defeat Puerto Rico, 6-5. Matt McPherson from Foothill scored his second goal of the game with one second left in regulation.
Baumgarner also played a key role in ORCA’s 17-and-under victory over Contra Costa as he scored three goals in the 12-6 victory.
Brian Pharris from Villa Park also scored three goals for ORCA.
Jorege Davitianni of Golden West College had two goals for the Southern California 17-and-under team A team as it defeated the Puerto Rico national youth team, 10-3.
