Nanni Loy; Italian Film Director, TV Producer

Nanni Loy, 69, Italian film director best known for his 1962 film “The Four Days of Naples.” That film by the leftist director recounted an uprising by the people of the southern Italian city against Nazi occupiers in 1943. Another of Loy’s works popular in Los Angeles art houses was the 1983 “Mi Manda Picone (Picone Sent Me)” starring Giancarlo Giannini as a struggling unemployed Neapolitan whose life changes when he is mistaken for a member of the local Mafia. Loy’s other films included “The Robber’s Word” in 1957 and “Urchins” in 1989, as well as several documentaries. Recently a television producer, he had produced Italy’s version of “Candid Camera.” On Monday in Fregene, Italy, of a heart attack.
