Rich Enough for a Queen

Queen Elizabeth’s fortune is worth at least $3.41 billion, making her Britain’s richest person, according to a survey to be released today.
Business Age magazine’s annual list of Britain’s 500 richest people put supermarket magnate David Sainsbury in second place at $2.48 billion, followed by property and entertainment billionaire Paul Raymond with $2.41 billion, last year’s leader.
Last year the magazine estimated the queen’s personal investments at $245 million. But it said it has re-evaluated what the monarch actually owns, based on strict legal definitions, resulting in this year’s much higher total.
Business Age said the government and Buckingham Palace are in talks that should lead to a clearer assessment of what belongs to the monarch personally and what is state property.
“When that happens we expect the estimates will far surpass our conservative valuation” of $3.41 billion, it said.
