COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Cornerback Bradley Returns to Team

Senior cornerback Mario Bradley, who was apparently unhappy over prospects he might lose his starting spot and stayed away from practices Wednesday and Thursday, rejoined the team Friday.
“One thing we’re determined to do with this team is foster competition at every position,” Coach John Robinson said. “Mario now understands that. We gave him an opportunity to get away and he came back and asked for a chance to compete for a starting spot.”

Robinson still isn’t talking about a quarterback starter, but all signs pointed to Brad Otton after a 55-minute Friday night scrimmage at the Coliseum. Otton, the junior who backed up Rob Johnson last year, ran the offense for the first series of plays and completed six of seven passes. . . . Nose guard Stu Gage injured a knee Friday night. It wasn’t immediately known if it was a serious injury. . . . Several regulars, including wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson (shoulder), sat out the scrimmage. . . . Defensive standouts were cornerback Daylon McCutcheon (six tackles) and linebacker Errick Herrin (four). Sophomore kicker Adam Abrams was three for three on field goals measuring 30, 43 and 32 yards.
