The California Highway Patrol arrested 34 people on suspicion of drunk driving in Ventura County during the Labor Day holiday weekend, authorities reported Tuesday.
The crackdown, which extended from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Monday, was intended to cut down on traffic fatalities during what is traditionally the deadliest holiday of the year for motorists.
CHP officers made more than three times the number of arrests made during the 1994 Labor Day weekend.
There were no traffic fatalities related to drunk driving in Ventura County during the holiday period.
