PREP FOOTBALL ’95 / FREE-LANCE : SOUTHERN SECTION : MONTCLAIR PREP
- Share via
The latest in a long line of standout tailbacks for Montclair Prep is stocky senior Akil Anderson (5 feet 11, 230 pounds), who rumbled for 987 yards in four playoff games and was chosen Southern Section Division X player of the year.
Despite his size, Anderson is more than just a power runner. His twisting and turning as the starting point guard for the Division V state champions in basketball left opponents dizzy.
Quarterback Bobby Newman, tight end/outside linebacker, Anwawn Jones and linebacker Demetrius Green will make the Mounties a playoff force no matter what division they’re placed in by the Southern Section.
Coach George Giannini, road-tested by long trips in search of opponents, is looking forward to playing neighborhood rival Van Nuys at Valley College the third week of the season.
“Its been a long time since we’ve played a City school,” he said. “It’s going to be a highlight to our season.”
