OXNARD : Sponsors Needed for Charity Tennis Event

The Oxnard Boys & Girls Club is looking for a few philanthropic tennis-heads to take part in its second annual “Kids Are Our Racquet” tennis tournament and fund-raiser.
The tournament will be held Saturday in association with the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, at the Cabrillo Racquet Club in Somis. Organizers are hoping to raise $15,000 to support the club’s two after-school recreation programs.
So far, 40 people have paid the $50 registration fee to take part in the round-robin doubles tournament, but the club needs 28 more to round out the field, said Abe Oliveras, executive director. The tickets include a barbecue and auction at the end of the tournament.
The club is also looking for more businesses to purchase court-side sponsor signs for $75 and more residents to purchase the $25 tickets for the post-tourney barbecue.
“It’s one of our major fund-raising efforts,” Oliveras said. “It’s more of a fun get-together than a serious tournament. Even if you don’t play tennis very well, we’ll put you in.”
