3 Arrested at Meth Lab; Child Taken Away

Three people staying in a motel with a 1-year-old child were arrested Thursday on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamines in their room, police said.

Officers noticed something suspicious about 11 a.m. in the parking lot of a motel in the 5600 block of Lincoln Avenue, Sgt. David Birozy said. He couldn’t specify what they saw.

Police entered the motel room and found equipment and chemicals sufficient for making up to three pounds of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $15,000, Birozy said.

Robert Atkinson, 38, of Garden Grove, Kristy Thompson, 22, of Cypress, and Kenneth Montague, 38, of Anaheim were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs for sale, Birozy said. The child was taken to Orangewood Children’s Home in Orange. Police did not know who the child belonged to.

Officials are also seeking charges of felony child endangerment against the suspects, Birozy said.

They were booked in Cypress and bail was set at $100,000 each.
