Mr. Tatum (Letters, Sept. 3) is misinformed. Our translator, which contains the Berlitz Spanish-English database, includes Spanish translations for both forms--”my name is” and “I am called” ( “me nombre es” and “me llamo” ). According to several linguists we’ve consulted, these forms can be used interchangeably, although “me llamo” (I call myself) would be a more appropriate response to the question “what are you called?”
