IRVINE — An Irvine man was killed and two women were injured in a traffic collision Sunday that occurred after one car ran a red light, police said.
Lori Ellenberger, 31, of Riverside was headed north on MacArthur Boulevard near Campus Drive about 10:30 a.m. when her car struck another vehicle driven by Thomas Young, 51, of Irvine, according to authorities. Ellenberger told police she could not avoid the collision.
Young was conscious at the scene and was able to speak with police, but he later died of internal injuries at Irvine Medical Center, said Irvine Police Sgt. Gary Shull. Ellenberger and a passenger in Young’s vehicle, Regina Hudson, also were transported to the medical center for treatment of injuries. Information on their conditions was not available Sunday.
Shull said it was clear that one of the cars ran a red light, but police were uncertain which one it was. The vehicles reached the traffic signal at about the same time.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Irvine Police Investigator Doug Coffing at (714) 724-7024.
