Newport/Costa Mesa/Irvine : COSTA MESA : Muffler Helps Still Noisy Water Pump
- Share via
After weeks of humming and rattling and complaints from residents, the Mesa Consolidated Water District said that it has successfully reduced noise and vibrations caused by pumps at its east side reservoir.
Agency officials said that use over the weekend of a new pump engine muffler has brought calm and quiet back to the neighborhood near the district’s Reservoir No. 2.
“Based on what we have seen so far, we are confident the new muffler will do the job,” district general manager Karl Kemp said.
Kemp said he made visits to the homes of some who had complained about noise and was pleased with the results.
The district will continue to test the muffler throughout the week under differing circumstances. Based on those results, the district will order three more mufflers for the reservoir’s other pumps.
