THE PREPS : Katella Wins Its First Water Polo Tournament Title
- Share via
Dave Shaddy scored five goals to lead Katella to a 15-8 victory over Cypress in the championship game of the Cerritos boys’ water polo tournament, the first varsity water polo tournament title in the school’s history.
Phil Wirthgen added three goals and Scott Cutler had 15 saves for the Knights (11-6). Katella defeated Lakewood, 18-2, in a semifinal.
The tournament title is a bright spot for a program that suffered a tragic loss this summer. Two Katella players were among four killed in a one-car automobile accident near Victorville.
