Garden Grove’s City Hall to Be Razed Unless Funds Found

GARDEN GROVE — Unless the city can find $3 million to $4 million to bring the soon-to-be vacated City Hall up to building code standards, the building will be demolished by early next year.
The 1924 building on Acacia Parkway is so fraught with seismic, electrical and plumbing problems that city officials decided that it would be cheaper to move their offices across the street to the former Orange County Transportation Building at 11222 Acacia Parkway. The move will be completed Nov. 13.
City officials said the building has no historical value because it has been renovated several times over the years.
The council Tuesday voted to allow contractors to begin removing asbestos from the building and demolishing it in 60 days barring a reasonable plan to solve its problems.
