NEWHALL — A 35-year-old Newhall woman was killed and a 28-year-old Newhall man was critically injured Tuesday when his pickup swerved into oncoming traffic on San Fernando Road, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
Tyrone Stewart was driving south on San Fernando Road just past Circle J Ranch Road about 5:30 p.m. when his pickup drifted across the center of the highway and hit a small car driven by Patricia Schonert, Sheriff’s Traffic Investigator Mike Shapiro said. Schonert died at the scene.
Schonert’s car was then rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Kerry Kirkley, 45, of Saugus, Shapiro said. Kirkley was in fair and stable condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital late Tuesday. Stewart was in critical condition.
