Golden West Ties Rancho Santiago

Golden West and Rancho Santiago wrestled to a 20-20 tie Wednesday night in a key South Coast Conference matchup.
Golden West (5-2-1, 1-2-1), ranked fifth in the state, was behind, 17-14, before the 177-pound match. In that match, Raphael Davis rallied from four points down to defeat Rancho Santiago’s Steve Ruiz. Davis managed a two-point reversal with 14 seconds left to win, 10-9.
Santiago’s Terry Tuzzolino, ranked No. 1 in the state at 177 and undefeated (15-0) before the meet, moved up to the 190-pound class to face Tito Ortiz, ranked second in the state at that weight. Ortiz took an early lead, 5-0, and held on for a 9-5 victory and a 20-17 Golden West lead. Jim Ambriz of Rancho Santiago (6-2-1, 2-1-1) recorded a 7-4 victory over Golden West’s Robert Vasquez in the heavyweight match to tie the score.
