COUNTYWIDE : Reward Is Posted for Freeway Crash Clues

The family of a Placentia man, who was injured in an auto accident that killed two others, announced a $5,000 reward Thursday for information leading to the driver who investigators said caused the freeway crash.

“What they’re trying to do is get someone to come forward,” California Highway Patrol Investigator D. Grady said. “We basically have nothing right now.”

On Sept. 30, a speeding driver who was apparently racing with another vehicle at about 75 m.p.h. on the Santa Ana Freeway near Alton Parkway sideswiped a sports utility vehicle carrying six young people on their way to Tijuana, CHP officers said. Three passengers were ejected as the vehicle overturned.

Jennifer Twohy, 19, and William Baughn, 21, both of Placentia, died. Paul Janicki, 21, and Daniel McDonald, 21, also of Placentia, suffered serious injuries, CHP officers said.

The driver who cut in front of the vehicle fled.

After several weeks without a solid lead, McDonald’s parents set up the reward fund with money donated by relatives of the six people involved in the accident, authorities said.

Contributions to the Twohy/Baughn Reward Fund may be sent to: Fidelity Federal Bank, 201 E. Yorba Linda Blvd., Placentia, 92670. Or call (714) 528-3466.
