Leading Targets of Consumer Complaints

Used-car sales and home improvement and construction top the list of consumer complaint targets, according to a report by consumer groups. Car repairs ranked third, new-car sales fourth and telemarketing fifth. The report, citing state and local government agencies, was issued by the National Assn. of Consumer Agency Administrators and the Consumers Federation of America.
Susan Grant, executive director of the group of state and local consumer agencies, told a news conference this month that the frequency of car-related complaints is remarkable and she called on the industries to help end abuses. Telemarketing and direct-mail complaints, on the other hand, were down from last year.
