Tanya Now a Hurricane but Poses No Threat

MIAMI — Tanya turned into a hurricane over the Atlantic on Sunday but posed no threat to land as it churned hundreds of miles east of Bermuda. Tanya became the 11th hurricane of the season when it crossed the 74 m.p.h. threshold, making this year second only in hurricane activity to 1969. There were 12 that year. When Tanya’s winds reached 39 m.p.h. Friday, it become the season’s 19th named tropical storm.
